This is simply a cylinder, nothing more. Some of the older models had the diffuser portion brazed onto the pipe it's self, and they were not removable. This is of the original design for the E61 Faema machines, and back then no one used these. In fact, in Europe they are still not used for anything other than rinsing spoons or portafilters out, as it should be. You will experience quite a bit of splatter from this tip (if you do not have a diffuser on your existing pipe), and it does not direct or slow the force of the boiling water down. Well, not much anyway.
